Medical apparel includes specialized garments designed for use in healthcare, serving both to protect medical staff and ensure patient safety. This includes, among other things, lab coats, scrubs, trousers, surgical wear, protective gowns, as well as disposable or reusable clothing for special hygiene requirements. This apparel is functionally designed, offers freedom of movement, is comfortable to wear, and is often made from robust, easy-care materials suitable for frequent washing or sterilization. Depending on the area of use – such as in the operating room, on the ward, or in the laboratory – different requirements apply to material, density, and protective effect, e.g., against liquids or germ transmission. In addition to the hygienic aspect, medical apparel also conveys professionalism and can contribute to orientation in medical facilities through uniform colors or logos. In times of increased infection risk, personal protective equipment such as protective gowns, caps, and overshoes also gains additional importance.
