Buying a dermatoscope: what matters
- Polarised or non-polarised: polarised light shows deeper structures without immersion fluid; non-polarised mode with a contact plate shows surface features. Many devices offer both modes.
- Magnification and field of view: larger optics make it easier to assess larger lesions.
- Documentation: adapters for cameras or smartphones are available for image documentation.
- System and accessories: dermatoscope heads fit the handles of the manufacturer's system. Contact plates with a scale help to measure lesions.
Frequently asked questions about dermatoscopes
What is the difference between DELTA 20 T and DELTA 30 PRO?
Both belong to the HEINE DELTA series. The DELTA 30 PRO has a larger lens and therefore a larger field of view; the DELTA 20 T is more compact. Full technical data is on each product page.
Do I need a contact plate with a scale?
A scale makes it easier to measure skin lesions and compare them over time. For visual checks only, a contact plate without a scale is sufficient.
Can I buy just the dermatoscope head?
Yes, if you already own a matching handle from the same system. Otherwise a complete device or set is the better choice.
