Disposable or reusable?

Reusable electrodes, such as suction electrodes with a rubber bulb or limb clamp electrodes, are used mainly for resting ECGs. Gel, sensor and backing material
For disposable adhesive electrodes, manufacturers mainly distinguish between solid gel and liquid gel. Solid gel electrodes (hydrogel) can usually be removed with little residue and are well suited to shorter applications. Liquid gel or wet gel electrodes contain a gel-soaked sponge and are often chosen for applications with high demands on signal transmission. In most electrodes, the sensor is made of silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl).

- Backing material: foam, non-woven or tape, depending on the required adhesion and wear time
- Size and shape: round, oval or rectangular, for adults or children
- Skin compatibility: manufacturer information, for example on latex-free materials
- Storage and shelf life: the gel can dry out once the pouch has been opened. Choose pouch sizes to match your consumption and note the expiry date.
ECG paper: format and device compatibility
ECG recorders usually print on thermal paper. The paper must match your device exactly, because width, length, folding and grid printing differ from model to model. Rolls and Z-fold paper are common. Many suppliers list the compatible device models or the device manufacturer's part number, which makes selection easier.
Thermal paper reacts to heat, light and certain chemicals, so store it in a cool, dry place away from light. If printouts are to be kept for a longer period, clarify internally whether digital archiving is planned.
